Josep Font: A New Creative Director and the SS13 Collections

Josep Font, at the end of last year stepped down from his eponymous label–dedicated to beautifully constructed clothing with an Art Nouveau sensibility. The design house has won numerous awards, including the L’Oréal Prize for Best Collection at the Cibeles Fashion Show as well as accolades from the New York Times, calling Font “Spain’s breakout talent”. With his design house growing in notoriety Font needed to find a replacement to helm his brand–which he did in the capable hands of Ana Cristina Garcia, the new Creative Director at Josep Font. With the SS13 collection set to launch for sale online next week we sat down with Garcia to discuss the new collection and her role at the design house:

KS: What’s your favorite piece from your SS 2013 collection ?

ACG: Obviously I love all my garments, but when I’m designing, I have to know that my designs are for many different people.  From the SS13 collection there are two blouses that I particularly love–they are very jewel-like. One is constructed out of a multi-color organza (one of my favorite fabrics) and the other one is really special to me because I love its pattern–helicopters printed on silk! I love that these are the kind of garments that you can mix with jeans and will make you stand out from the crowd.

I also love one of the evening dresses of from this collection. It’s a full-length orange dress constructed out of silk and Chantilly. It’s incredibly elegant. I know that this will be one of our top garments of this summer, and that makes me very happy.

KS: What’s your favorite place to relax  either with family or friends?

ACG: Asturias, in the North of Spain. Is one of my favorite places and I try to go there every year. It’s where I feel very peaceful and where I can disconnect. Also the landscape there is very beautiful. To all of your readers: if you get a chance visit Asturias, it really is very lovely.

KS: Does your home reflect your passion for design ?

ACG: I think it does, yes. My shelves are full of design books and magazines–and in the entrance way there is the mannequin that one I learned to design on. I also have a studio that is full of fabrics, my sewing machine and other design tools.
