Lulu Guinness is famous for her exquisite, witty handbags and accessories. We have selected our favourite pieces from her Spring Summer 2012 Collection.
Started in 1989 the label became an immediate success stocking stores worldwide, including Harrods, Selfridges and Fortnum and Mason.
Lulu has bags included in the permanent fashion collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum and has had designs shown in Sotheby’s.
Her bags have been seen on the arms of celebrities including Dita Von Teese, Sienna Miller, Agyness Deyn, Sophie Dahl, Keira Knightley and Alexia Chung.
In 2009 Lulu Guinness was awarded The Independent Handbag Designer Awards Iconoclast Award for Lifetime Achievement in Handbag Design.
We opened our Koh Samui store in 1994, the same year Lee Alexander McQueen enroled with Central Saint Martins School.
The first time we became aware of Alexander McQueen was around 1995. One evening as we were walking down London’s South Molton Street we noticed in Pelicano one of London’s super cool stores at the time, some amazing pieces from a designer that we had never seen before.
Alongside the most desirable International designers in the window, the label read McQueen. We did our research to discover who this designer was in order to stock him in our store. Unfortunately Pelicano’s owner Chris saw the potential with McQueen and had already signed him exclusivly to her store for a couple of years.
During those early years the closest we got to stocking McQueen was carrying his then boyfriends collection Jimmy Jumble. Lee would often come into the store with Jimmy on buying appointments or delivering his collections. On one occasion he asked Talita to be in his Highland Rape catwalk show. Talita being a little shy back then, smiled and politely declined the offer.
In later years Lee became a huge International star, whenever he came into our Koh Samui store as a customer, our team of girls would be whispering OMG Alexander McQueen’s in the store. Being in Fashion it meant more to me and Talita to have Lee in our store than most Hollywood Actresses, Super Models or Rock Superstars, and we pretty much had them all.
Lee Alexander McQueen, was the most Inspirational Exciting Talented Creative Fashion Designer of our time.
